How to move a grand piano
- Environmental check-ups
The movers should look for damages in the piano and let the client be aware of them to avoid any misunderstandings. The environment surrounding the instrument has to be thoroughly examined and any path blocks cleared. Ample space should be created so as to move freely the piano. Pay close attention to the room’s corners since a grand piano is lengthy.
- Take care of the ancillary parts

- The tuning pedals
The bottom of the instrument needs attention since it is very fragile. One person has to go under the instrument with a screwdriver to disassemble the rack connecting the tuning pedals. Each pedal needs to be covered with plastic and moving pads. These delicate parts must be wrapped properly to prevent their bending and consequent breakdown. That is why professionals are needed.
- Dismount the legs and the flips
The board is located 3ft on the left side of the instrument. One person handles the anterior left corner, the second person takes the posterior left corner and the last person unbolts the front left leg. The ends need to be held up. After taking out the leg, it should be placed on a moving pad and then the right side is tackled. As the movers deal with one leg, care needs to be taken not to apply too much tension on the other legs.
From here, the grand piano is ready for transportation.
